Scouting Liguria

My wife and I are Americans living in Maryland, but hoping to retire to Italy in 2022. We will be traveling to Liguria next month, from mid-September to mid-October. We are looking at towns on or near the water between Genoa and La Spezia.

My wife is a rower (sculler) -- I know there are a couple of rowing clubs in Genoa and another in La Spezia. Anybody have any experience with them?

I'm a sailor -- any recommendations on sailing clubs in eastern Liguria?

We'd also love to meet some expats in Liguria, buy you dinner and pick your brains about places to seek out (and avoid!).
