Just Beginning (Over)

I’ve been considering & researching a move to Italy since a shattering, but liberating, divorce after a 30 year marriage. In narrowing further I’m considering expenses, a region with flat tax, access to good healthcare, and not isolating myself more than necessary. I’ll be moving as a single, middle aged American female (still active and I’d like to think attractive). I plan to learn as much Italian as I can before immersing. I am financially able to do this and have few ties and little want to be in the US any longer.

All that being said, I’m stumped! I need to narrow my focus on a region. I’d like a destination with some English speaking expats but do want to be part of an overall community. I think a small city/large town would be best. Any thoughts or tips?
