Claudio Had Such A Great Time Living For 12 Months In Italy In 2017 He Wants To Do It Again In 2022/2023

Salve Everyone,

My name is Claude (really Claudio) and I'm a dual Australian/Italian Citizen. Im a retired lawyer from Canberra, single, 67, with a Maltese/Poodle, 18 months, named Sushi.

I'm currently studying Italian online with Italy Made Easy (https://www.italymadeeasy.com/), which is the closest thing online to an Italian language university course and I am very happy to recommend it. I am currently finishing Beginner's Level 2 and hope to begin the first of 3 Intermediate courses before I leave for Italy. Of course being an online course I can continue it while I'm in Italy.

In 2017 I lived for 12 months in Jesi, Le Marche (with no dog at that time) and had such a wonderful experience, I want to do another 12 months somewhere else in Italy.

I don't own a place in Italy and have no relatives there so I'm looking at renting an apartment for 12 months and yes, if I can, I would like to bring Sushi with me.

Jesi has a population of about 60,000, counting the suburbs and that wasn't too small for me and I certainly wouldn't want to go much more than double that size.

The locations I am currently researching are Lucca, Verona and Ferrara and any advice anyone could offer regarding those locations or anywhere else would be most appreciated. Obviously the cost of renting is a factor and I also need somewhere with a conveniently located train station, because I drove in Italy once in my life and it's an experience I don't care to repeat ever again if I can avoid it. A pet friendly location is also a big factor for me.

One concern I have about bringing Sushi with me is that he may be more susceptible to Italian diseases because he's not a local. I'm particularly concerned about Canine Leishmaniosis, which we don't have in Australia. I'd love to hear from anyone living with pets in Italy, and any advice they could give me about the best protection I can administer to Sushi to limit his susceptibility to the local disease risks. Of course I will be connecting with a local vet as soon as possible after I arrive in Italy but I want to assess the risk before I leave because I may well decide not to bring him if I consider that the risks are too high. I know some people will consider this a little over the top but Sushi is my best friend. Im sure there will be those who will understand.

In any event that's me introducing myself, coupled with a request for your advice. And of course if anyone is interested in batching it in Italy, reply to this or send me a private message (either way, your choice) and we can exchange correspondence to get to know each other and explore the possibility of us getting along on an Italian adventure.

All the best to you all.

Claudio
