Towns to visit before I make the movee

Hello, I'm a retiree planning to move to Puglia. I have a 90 day exploratory trip booked arriving May 2nd. I then return to the US to file for my ER in LA ( :-0 ). I'm planning to start my adventure taking the train to Bari and then day trips to explore outer areas for a couple of weeks. I will then move down the coast to Brindisi and do the same and so on. I'm looking for a place to rent where I will become a local and enjoy the slower lifestyle. I wish to rely on public transportation and not own a car (that's my goal anyway!) Coming from the American Southwest I like hot and dry. Any thoughts and ideas are welcome. Thank you for your insight.
