Buses and Trains

I'm hoping to find an apartment, or rent a room in an Agriturismo, in the Tuscan or Umbrian hills. However, since I don't want to rent a car for my three-month allowed Schengen stay, I would like to be in an area within walking distance to bus service or a train station. I prefer less populated cities (like Siena), but would like to be able to bus or train to Siena, Florence, and other areas. Any suggestions? Grazie!
