What should we expect once we file our. Residency Kit?

We are returning to our house in Italy this summer. (Just purchased in Dec 2021) We have our Visa to stay till just before Thanksgiving. Once we file our KIT (post office of Police Office???) what happens next? Are we required to stay put till the next steps? What exactly are the next steps? Can we venture off for long weekends away from our house? Can we leave the country for a mini jaunt? Will August be a dead time frame for the process since everyone in Italy is on holiday? How long is the process of finalizing Residency? And finally: Do we have to repeat the process. And if so how frequently? Thanks in advance for your experiences.
