getting EU pet passport in Italy

Hello lovely expats, I have arrived with my Shih tzu one week ago today, passed through Rome airport almost unnoticed, no one to help- had to go to Border patrol and ask for help to register him entering the country. Now I am in Liguria, and cannot find an "Official Vet" to help register the dog for a Pet Passport, I keep being told I must go to the ASL office?? Does anyone know how do do this? And is this correct? He has his microchip, his Rabies and his USDA cert. Health Certificate. I do not understand the next steps...Can anyone advise me? Thank you'll ever so much, you are all the most helpful bunch. Got fabulous advise on how to pack and what to bring for winter! xx
