I am a writer and an artist. I was looking around the internet to see if Italy requires me to have a work permit and all I could find for "artists" were for performing artists (musicians, etc.).
I write books, non fiction books. I have a number of published books that bring in monthly royalty income (not much but still . . .).
Italy is strict about work permits, but I think that applies to people who receive a salary or a commission for work one in Italy. As a writer of niche non-fiction books (philosophy and religion), I do not work for anyone nor any company. So do I need a work permit in Italy? My meagre royalty payments will show up on my tax forms I suppose. Will this endanger my current permesso di soggiorno to live in Italy? Mine is as a retired person living as a pensioner. What I have read says I cannot "work" without a permit. But is writing considered to fall under that category?
