Consulate Appointment for elective residency visa

I was able to secure an appointment with the Italian Consulate in San Francisco in September 2023 and my question is: do I have to produce all the required documents at this appointment or is this just the first step? They require proof of long term rental or home ownership as part of requirements. I will not be able to furnish this until later this year or early 2024. Any advice tips or suggestions greatly welcomed.
