I am looking at a possible move. I have made approx 10 trips to the Negril area and have made friends and a relationship. I research constantly and am aware of employment regulations. I would be living with and possibly marrying a national. I am 8 yrs from collecting retirement income. What I can't find info on is if there is a need for white American hairdressers in the big resorts? My idea is to cater to white women during their destination weddings. I come from the humid Midwest and have 32 yrs experience doing all aspects of haircare. During my next visit this spring or summer, I plans on visiting as many resorts as possible to see if there is a need and possibly secure a job offer. I have great respect for the country regulating jobs to outsiders. The US has large amounts of unemployment and no regulation. I would like to find my acceptable place in the Jamaica work force until I can collect retirement. Also by marrying a national, I realize that eliminates my need for a work visa, but does that also mean I am eligible for any job, even if it can be filled by a national. I try to learn more each time I am there about shopping at farmers markets, local customs and fitting in. It is the kindness of the people, the apparent respect for each other and slower pace that appeals to me vs. the stressful " race to death", selfish attitude in America. I grew up in town of 200 people in and area of tiny Christian towns where life was more simple and we looked out for one another. Jamaica reminds me so much of that with the beauty of the tropics. I can't afford to live on the beach in the US but really think I can do so there. I appreciate all input.
