We could really use expat advice for our 2nd trip to Japan.
During our 1st trip, we covered many of the touristy spots: Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Izu peninsula, Nikko. We've also traveled extensively and lived in several countries in the world.
Now we're looking for a culinary tour of Japan. We're thinking of a 3-week trip split equally between Tokyo and Hokaido. There are lots of culinary tours proposed by many companies; unfortunately I've only found American and European companies so far - not too interesting.
I'd love to find a small Japanese company that does culinary tours with local guides.
I believe that the website Tabelog is where local people search for restaurants. Is that the best source? Any other sources?
Perhaps someone knows of a reliable guide who could escort us to small
out-of-the-way restaurants in Tokyo and then another guide for Sapporo.
Any and all advice will be very welcome.
Domo arigato.
