Visa question

Greetings,

I was wondering if it is still possible to stay in Laos long term-ish by going to the Thai border at Nong Khai every 30 days?

This was not an issue in the past as far as the Laos immigration folks were concerned. But, Thailand has tightened up their visa regulations, and I don't know if Thai immigration might turn me away even though I would only be in Thailand for less than an hour.

Before everyone jumps down my throat, I would be happy to go the legal route, but I am not looking to work in Laos. I'm taking a sabbatical of sorts and expect to be in Laos for upwards of a year.

If anyone living in Vientiane at this time may have any information it would be greatly appreciated.
