Living in France and working in Luxembourg

Hi everyone,

I received an offer to do my PhD in University of Luxembourg. I am a non-EU citizen, coming from Malaysia but I have been living in Helsinki for the past 3 years, so I have a pretty good idea of the living standard in Lux.

My work place (if I choose to accept) would be in Campus Belval in the Esch-sur-Alzette region which is right at the French border. Are there any expats here who are living in the French border towns? I know there are many people who do this, especially EU nationals. How about non-EU citizens? Are we required to apply for a separate French visa/residence permit in order to do this? Are the rules strict?

I have done an exhaustive search over the net but I am unable to find any kind of information. I really someone can help me out in my information gathering mission:)

Looking forward to hear from you.

Best,
Shaman
