Help with Moving to Malaysia

Hi

We are seriously considering making to move to live & work in Malaysia (Penang). We have holiday'd there a number of times now, and both are stuck in mundane jobs here in the UK, and feel that the time is right for us to make the big life changing jump. We spoke to a couple of people during our last holiday (Dec 06) about what we would need to do to make the move, but Igues you guys are the best people to ask, as you have already done it for yourselves.

We ideally would want to invest in/open a guest house/restaurant in Penang - how simple would it be an English couple to do - as it seems that all these kind of places are currently run by the locals?

Also I have read on a number of websites that you need to show 'x' amount of ringgits in a malay bank account before you would be consider eligable to move, does this have to be re-viewed annually?

Would you advise to rent a house before buying?

How long is a visa valid for - do you have to renew these?

Generally any advice, hints & tips of what it takes to make to move would be great!!

Oh by the way we are in our mid thirtys (if that makes any difference - which I think it does as from what I've read if your over 55 things change).

Thanks for any help,

Linda
