Moving from Thailand to Malaysia

Hi, I'm moving to Malaysia on August 7th. I have tried to book a reasonably priced hotel for a week during that time, but I'm having a difficult time in all the areas of Penang. Is there something going on in the city during the period of August 7th to August 15th? I have a tentative place to stay but I always like to have a backup!
