Rivera and San Antonio

Heading west from Chapala, you reach the village of Rivera. Too small to have a town plaza, it is the second-cheapest area I visited in the gringo zone. I was told that the gringo population has tripled in the last three years.

There are a few stores along the highway, but Chapala, with its huge plaza, is nearby. The town boasts Lake Chapala Baptist Church, an English-speaking church.

San Antonio has a small, pleasant plaza, and a real supermarket. Its line of stores along the highway is adequate for your regular shopping needs. Its location between Chapala and Ajijic makes for short bus rides either way.
