Cohousing

Does anyone know anything about cohousing in Mexico? I found some info that sparked my interest, but cohousing could also be another name for gated community. This isn’t something my husband and I would be looking for, but maybe cohousing is worth a second look, if it’s really a different concept.
Also, I saw that Haciendas are more popular to buy, as they’re generally bigger than a typical house and can accommodate several families.
I’m just trying to get as much info about different possibilities, as moving to Mexico is a new idea for us, to get away from Canadian winters, and a very unsound government.
