Crime in San Miguel de Allende

I have read that there has been a big increase in crime and cartel activity in SMA, so I wanted to get info from actual residents about this.

Also any personal experience with Cielito Lindo would be welcome. At first glance this looks like the perfect place for us, but I want to get more info.
