I searched through the postings but didn't find anything topical in the last 5-6 years.
I have been thinking of driving my 2008 Ford Ranger down to Chapala with a small amount of personal possessions, ie tools, kitchen appliances, wall hangings, ect. Based on my research with the local Mx Consulate in Calgary I would qualify for an RP but it seems convenient and beneficial to get an RT and drive down with some personal belongings rather than get an RP and fly down with just a suitcase and have to buy everything new.
Seemed like a smart plan. But I am being told by some locals that driving around with foreign plates is just an invitation for local law enforcement to stop and ticket or just generally harass you. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this? In the Chapala area in Jalisco State?
I am aware of the 4 year limitation of the RT and the TIP.
Also does anyone have any insight on the current rules on importing vehicles? I understand there is an age-of-vehicle issue in this; does anyone know about this? Or where best to look?
