Solo female retirees experiences and advice regarding relocating to Mexico

I would just really like to know women's experiences about retiring alone to Mexico? How difficult it is to meet other people, negotiate business, feel secure, etcetera? Are there better places to live as a older solo woman? I don't want to buy so what are the pitfalls of renting, aside from rental prices being much higher than the figures given in cost of living examples? Or is there a secret to getting the cheaper rate often quoted?

If I was younger I don't think it would bother me at all but the older I get the more cautious I become! I worked for the government and had to travel and relocate solo often and it never bothered me, but it was always in the US and I was younger , So anything anyone can share with me regarding relocating to another country would be much appreciated.,
