Playa neighborhood

I’m making my first retirement scouting trip to Playa Del Carmen. I was there many years ago when practically nothing was there . I know that now Playa is quite big and spread out and I’m not familiar with the different areas. Can anyone suggest a neighborhood/location that would be a good central location (not 5th Avenue—too busy/noisy) from which to get a feel for the city? Some place that I could get to the beaches fairly easily.? Thanks in advance.
