Automobile ideas?

Once I decide to spend six months in Mexico to give it a try or ultimately to relocate there, I will be driving from the US, with plans to keep the car at least for awhile. Reason number one is coming with a dog I don’t want to put in cargo. Are there recommendations for brands, sedan, SUV, etc? Right now I am driving a small 2015 Lexus hybrid hatchback. Leaning towards Ajijic. Thanks!
