Puerto Vallarta versus Mazatlan

I’m wondering if Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlan would be the better place to live either full-time or part-time. I am a single female so would also be considering safety issues. I believe to begin with I would be renting a place just to ensure I’ve made the right decision and then move on to buying a property.
