Marriage to a Mexican Citizen

Hello. In the new year, I am planning to marry my long-distance partner of ten years, a native of Mexico City. As it is now, I spend nearly half the year in Mexico City... usually four trips per year on a tourist visa. After our wedding I am going to make the permanent move down there. I have read that if you are married to a Mexican citizen, you do not have to apply for the residency visa at a consulate in the U.S.; you can get it right there in Mexico. Is that still true? Would anyone know at what government office I would need to apply, and do I have to apply within a certain time frame after the wedding?
Thanks for any advice you can give me. I know my partner could probably investigate this, but I am just trying to get a general idea ahead of time for planning the logistics of the big move.
