True organic food

I've been in Puerto Vallarta for a few days and have found that I like it very much here, so I'm heading back to the US to get more clothes and stuff, and I'm coming back to stay for a while. In the US, when produce or other food is said to be "organic", that means it's produced without pesticides, GMO, etc. But in Mexico I'm seeing that when a sign or website says "organica", that can simply mean it's of natural origin, and not necessarily produced without pesticides, artificial hormones, etc. I'd like to find organic (in the US sense of the word) produce, and also restaurants or smoothie joints that are truly organic, too.
