Safety in the City of Patzcuaro

I've read many articles and warnings about the dangers of living in the State of Michoacan and many others that say living in the City of Patzcuaro is safe for expats.

I've found a lovely home in the city center. I'd like to purchase it and live full-time in Patzcuaro. However, I'm concerned about the dangers.

I would love an honest update if you have first-hand knowledge of this area.
