My husband and I have been in Morocco for a year now, and I just found out that I'm pregnant!!!! I'm super excited but scared about the health care here. We live in Ifrane, an hour from Fez. Last year I had some issues with my health and had to see an OBGYN (not pregnancy related), and it seemed good at first, but I wasn't getting better-- just worse. When I returned to him, he just gave me higher doses of the same medicine. While on vacation visiting family in the states, I decided to visit a doctor for the same problem and found out that I'd been misdiagnosed (because he never tested me). So I haven't had good experiences with the doctors here. I've also heard horror stories, like from a friend of mine who was pressured by a doctor in Fez to go under surgery for a minor problem (she found out it was minor by calling and consulting with a doctor in the U.S., and it went away on its own in a week, and now she's fine!!). I've heard that they are eager to put you under the knife because surgeries make money, hence C-sections are super common. However, I've heard that doctors in Fez are generally not as good as those in Rabat, where you can find better quality. I also know of an expat that successfully had a child in Meknes. If you have had a child in Morocco and know a good physician, please let me know! I REALLY want to have a natural birth if at all possible, and an OBGYN that speaks some English.
