Moving to Brooklyn

Hi all, I'm moving to Brooklyn in January next year with my 10 year old daughter. I'm marrying a New Yorker. I've lived there before but my daughter hasn't. I'm really interested in meeting folks in a similar situation already in New York. The idea is to prepare my daughter for the transition as much as possible, it was suggested that she becomes penpals (email...lol) with a peer? Any suggestions/thoughts?
