How realisitic is it to get a visa?

Having been trying to find a visa via the recruitment method (and so many companies contacting me about my resume but stopping on the visa issue) with little success. I have been told that as an expert in my field of Information Security and compliance (and having worked at a number of high profile organisations) I could qualify for a visa as an exceptional person.

But how realistic is to be able to move from the UK to the US? Are we really going to be able to do this at all? or should we give up as has been suggested by some.
