Moving from London to NYC - teaching

My wife is being relocated for 1.5 years to NYC. We currently live in London, UK. Whilst I'm American, so no visa issues, I qualified as a teacher in the UK and have been teaching here for 6 years. I teach English to 11-19 year olds. I have recently been working with students who have social, emotional and behavioral difficulties, which I would love to continue to do. I was wondering if anyone has had experience of getting their PGCE recognised in the US. I've been on the education website for NY, but other than telling me I need to apply and send my credentials, there is no inforamation about the different outcomes that are possible. Is it possible to get an initial license or would it be a transitional license where I'd have to meet certain requirements? If so, what are they?

Are there job vaccancies for a January start?

Thanks.
