Visiting in Feb - Friends, Advice?

Hello all,

Have been dreaming of NZ for 4 years and finally we'll be seeing it with our own four eyes Feb 22 - April 16.

Would like to meet others besides tourists along the way, American, Kiwi, or any other friendly folk to talk about living in NZ and just to shoot the breeze.

We're a couple, both 40 years old, photographers. I'm American and my husband is Belgian. We intend to have fun and take great photos, and camp alot but also want to check out the possibility of living at least part time there. It sounds like Immigration has become tougher of late, were wondering if we'd have a better chance if we were in business for ourselves or started something up there. Also, it sounds like some of you are not feeling that welcome. Has that changed (for the better, I sincerely hope)?

We'll be travelling both the South and North Islands and thought for relo that Nelson, Northland, Coromandel would suit us better as we like it hot. though it does sound more like warm after living in Florida and Hawaii!

And, how much does it rain, we've been stuffing raincoats and umbrellas in our bags like crazy. do we need rainpaints too? Our itinerary is going to go something like this: Christchurch-Dunedin-Te Anau-Queenstown-Wanaka-Nelson/Marlborough-maybe Kaikoura-Wellington-Napier-East Cape-Bay of Plenty-Coromandel-Auckland-Northland-Auckland . . . lots of driving!

Thanks and perhaps we'll meet along the way!
