Canada to New Zealand??

Hello! My boyfriend and I have been talking about where to move when were finished school and we have been considering some places in New Zealand.
Were both in our early 20's, no kids, no pets, no criminal records. We're just unsure on where would be a good place to live with similar laws to Canada (marijuana laws were curious about), a safe place to raise kids, what most people want when moving (affordable housing, good job opportunities etc.)
Has anyone moved from Canada to New Zealand? I read posts from Americans that moved and had said the people in NZ were rude, but I want a second opinion. A few our friends have traveled to New Zealand after we graduated high school and they loved it. I guess what I want to know is& should we pack up our apartment and move to NZ or is it better place to just visit??
