Auckland area neighbourhoods

Hello all. We are moving to Auckland in January and have a six and eight year old boy. We are trying to figure out the best neighbourhoods to rent a house in and I am wondering if there are any places to avoid. We are on a budget until I get my teacher registration sorted and my husband will be working straight away.
