Anyone with experience importing their dog

If anyone has gone through the process of bringing a dog from the US, or other "Category 3" country, I'd appreciate learning about your experience. I am also very curious about the use of a pet importer. The first quote I got was for ~$10,000 US for two dogs, which is a tad outside of our budget.
