a thought on moving to panama

I just read the amcostarica newspaper and it just reinforces what I have heard about the rising crime in CR. I've been to CR and it is a beautiful country with nice people. Hopefully they can eventually turn things around. With anyone, like me, considering a move to Panama, you have to be concerned about the crime in CR and other Central American countries, and it spilling over into Panama in the future. From what I have read, although Panama too is dealing with some increase in crime, it is still way below other countries in the area. You have to wonder just how long that will last and if the Panama government will be proactive in dealing with this problem. I will be visiting Panama again in a few months and, unless something really big comes up, I plan on making a final move there within a year. Any move always comes with risks. I guess this is one that has to be taken if one wants to truely reinvent themselves in a different country. I was in Bouquete (sp?) a few years ago. I was lugging my suitcase down a street, really upset because the place I had rented didn't work out. This guy pulls over and offers to help me find a place. Although thinking this guy must be up to something, I had no choice and got in. He was great. He drove me to several places to see if they had any vacancies and if I was ok with the place. With his help, I found a nice hostel on the main street. I offered to give him some money, but he refused. The guy just wanted to help. Try to find that kind help in the states. Not going to happen. Now that's a country worth considering a move to. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
