Leasing and renting in Panama

My wife and I have recently moved into an home in Coronado only to find the lease agreement was not properly completed as per the laws of Panama. When leasing or renting anything in Panama the agreement needs to show the legal description of the house, condo or what ever it may be to properly identify it and to protect you from rental agencies that will prey on incoming expats.I ,knowing what I now know, would have had a Panamanian lawyer review the lease agreement before signing it and advancing funds. The lease or rental agreement must be presented to you in both English and Spanish and list the finca number of the property. As well be very careful with so called damage deposits as nine times out of ten they will find a way to simply not return your money.Check around with others who have had dealings with property management companies for references and connect with these people before doing any kind of business with any rental company. There are certainly very good companies here in Panama and there are very bad companies .Do not let your stay or your welcome to a wonderful country such as Panama be a bad one.I have never had a bad experience with a Panamanian but the bad experiences have been with gringos from countries north of Panama. Please feel free to write me and I shall be happy to assist you with what I know of the bad ones here in Panama.BE CAREFUL OUT THERE
