Yet another Canadian logs in---

Just found this site and am very intrigued --

I'm a 77 yr old widower living a somewhat reclusive life on waterfront acreage on the west coast -- and getting tired of the solitary life and the Canadian winters ---- Panama has been suggested to me as an ideal location, and I am planning to visit in January to check it out --

I have travelled extensively, in Europe, Africa, and the Americas, particularly including Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina -- I enjoy sparsely populated beaches and temperate areas such as the coffee-growing altitudes of CR (presume there are similar areas in Panama ???)

I am not interested in a Big City atmosphere, but would enjoy more social contact than I experience in my present situation --- perhaps in a small rural town or mini-finca -- I have lived an international life, speak fluent French, passable German, and moderate Spanish, and would enjoy meeting expats from a variety of locations, not only Norteamericanos --- and --- Panamanians ----

My aims are similar to those of JohnF13, but in addition I would appreciate advice on a few points such as:
---How long a stay would you suggest to get a reasonably good feel for the country?
---What areas would you reccommend exploring on a priority basis? --PanamaJames you seem to be ensconced in the coffee altitudes I mentioned earlier --- I had put Chiriqui, Azuero, and the Valle area on my priority list, but would appreciate any suggestions --
--- I have read of temperate areas in the interior where fruit trees and vegetables are cultivated -- can you advise where this area(s) is/are?
----are there specific areas which have a more international expat population than others?
---
