To Wear or Not to Wear

Two of my friends are right now in the ICU. One's gonna make it, The other one is doubtful.

Herman Cain died yesterday.

I would like you to make an experiment: Take a plastic bag over your head, poke a little hole in it and wear it for 2 minutes. Extrapolate your experience for days. That's how the recovering friend told me that it feels.

Now take one of the face masks and wear it for 2 minutes and compare. Btw. I use the white/blue one-time face masks since they are totally easy to breath through. I continue using them and every few days I wash them. since they are hand-washable Compared to the full fabric ones the one-timer ones are far easier to breathe with and I put the latter away since they make me feel claustrophobic. You can -I have not tried and see no reason to- even wash them in a mild bleach solution but have to FLUSH them THOROUGHLY!

The reason I continue wearing it is its intended use: To protect others, if you are infected by collecting droplets from your mouth and nose and keep those from spraying to others.

My thought is: IF I have it, there is no reason to reinfect me by putting the same mask on again - I have it already. And if not, there is no danger in the first place.

I am no physician nor a medical researcher. I receive the same information as anyone else. I do therefore not know if the masks work or don't work.

But I know one thing: If that darn thing does what it is supposed to do and others around me wear it also, it may save my life (I am in the morbidity group: over 60, one open heart surgery after a heart attack),

If it does not work, what do I lose? With the white-blue mask a little annoyance and no claustrophobic experience.

So, if we leave all politics, religion, principle out of the calculation, it seems to me a no-brainer. If research's statements' are true and everyone wears the mask, I am safe. If I am infected by someone not wearing one, I will be pissed of until I die in a few weeks. But until I find out, I keep those around me safe from my infection since they are probably not the ones who infected me and I prefer to surround myself with people I like and I don't want my friends to be sick because of me.

There are very few individuals that I despise.so much that I might be around not wearing a mask.

So please let me understand where the problem is wearing and reusing the easy to wear cheapo masks (whose manufacturers stock I have none, to be clear).

Concluding:
There is nothing to gain if you don't wear them and a lot to loose for those around you if you are infected.

There is nothing to gain for those around you if they don't wear one and a lot to loose for you if you are around them.
