Beauty in Boquete

I have been to Panama, many years ago, but not to Boquete. Everyone talks about how beautiful Boquete is, and I hope it is beautiful. Although our greatest interest in Boquete is the weather. A place in the mountains where I can write in year around comfort.

But I watched the YouTube video where someone drove around and through Boquete for about 20 minutes, and what I saw was a rundown looking town. I didn't see the beauty that everyone talks about.

Maybe the beauty is in the mountains surrounding Boquete. I have lived in and traveled to countries around the world, and I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Maybe the beauty is in the people, or in the gated communities. Maybe the beauty is in the weather.

Our address in the U.S. is in a small town that no one would say is beautiful. It is old and run-down. Surrounded by cow pastures.

But we live in the adjacent 3,000 acre master-planned community that is still being developed, and it is undoubtedly beautiful. It has homes priced into the millions of dollars. The median price is more than $500,000. We just happen to share the address of the small town.

So my question about where to find the beauty in Boquete is not intended to be an insult. It is a sincere question. There is some reason that everyone calls it beautiful. I am looking for that reason, or those reasons.

We hope to have a second home there. I have seen pictures of beautiful homes in Boquete, but most of the homes I have seen are not beautiful.

My wife and I own residential rental properties, and we would not buy most of the homes I have seen pictures of in Boquete, even as a rental property. So again, there is a disconnect. I am missing something.

Sure, we will come and check things out in person, but we must wait until visitors are allowed again in Panama. International Living Magazine is conducting a private online screening on Sep 26-27 and we will participate in that event. We will know a lot more after that event.

In the meantime I found Expat Exchange, and if I haven't made everyone angry, I hope to begin getting to know some residents of Boquete even before we arrive there.

We have no interest in the beach towns. We are interested only in the mountain towns, and Boquete has risen to the top of our list. I attached a picture of my wife and I to introduce us.
