Please be candid in your response.

I am an American, from California older than dirt, but I can still ride my ATV and love it. I was a reasonably successful business person. I have two degrees from schools in California: Law and Psychology.
I have traveled many places in the World and gave presentations on cruise ships for 9 years (free cruises). I am a certified Alaska Naturalist.

20 years ago I moved to Chapala/Ajijic Mexico. I loved it. Reasonable prices, Calm, GREAT weather, etc. but it was an expat ghetto. I liked being 3.5 hours from California with good medical care, etc.

In the past 20-years, Mexico has changed, and IMO, not for the better. Prices are up, but not that bad. Health care is very good but you will pay a "Gringo tax" on most everything.

My wife of 8 years is from Panama, and from what I know, I would never life in Panama City, but she says places places such as Boquete and Crrro Punta are much different than the Panama City area.

I speak enough Spanish to get by, however, I do have a hearing disability, so this limits my ability to communicate easily, even with native English Speakers.

So what are the upsides and down sides of living in a "rural" area of Panama.

What is important to me?

1. Good reliable internet for Netflix;
2. Non-judgmental people who don't have fun by ashing others.
3. Helping with dog rescue organizations. Myself and my spouse love dogs, and will look to bring two with us.
4. Things to keep the mind active, and
5. Finding a place to live with NO BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
The things you like most about living in Panama.

The things you really don't like about Panama (Where do you live?).

All candid input is appreciated.

Thanks.

Steve.
