Greetings everyone, I noticed a poorly responded to post on self defense in Panama.
Here is an update.
I carry the Byrna pistol

First off these weapons are not regulated by panamanian constitution or other law. So it is a not a gray area. Not a major problem, but everyone who knows nothing, will have an opinion.
I consulted with my attorney and than introduced myself and my weapon to the local police, so I can say there is no problem with carring it concealed. If you open carry although not really illegal, you will be constantly challenged. So go with the flow and respect people issues with an armed citenzary... lol
When people notice my weapon I use it as a teaching point. I will unload it and let them look at it and answer questions.
pepper spay is legal, the problem is of cource is the effectivness. We recently saw a news cast were a local officer was beaten by a suspect after the officer used pepper spray on him. So pepper spay has it limitation.
I would suggest for most people to purchase a hand held stun gun like this.

Simply pulling and discharging to the open air will cause most assailents to flee. It makes a wicked buzzing noice between the stun prongs. I use it to interrupt fights and get the drunks to move on in the bars I guard.
