Living in Davao

I am retiring the end of Sept.
and will be moving to Manila to Join my fiance. She is from Tagum and
that is where her family live. However she tells me the security situation
in Tagum is very risky as it is an area that is full of NPA and abu
sayyaf, because the government doesn't bother them there and it is in the
mountains, so difficult to control. In any case I have to go there to
meet her family formally, but it will only be for a few days at most. We
plan on being married in Davao though, and perhaps buy a house there if
we can find one at a reasonable price.

I am writing opinions on security issues in
Davao from an American expats perspective. Is it a place where you have to watch your back all the time, or is it relatively
safe? What have you experienced positive and negative in this respect?
Do you have a realtor you deal with there whom you trust, and have
confidance in? Are you comfortable moving about the city alone using public
transport? Or do you only use your own car? Is trafic there as bad as
it is in Manila?

We wil be there in some time in October. In fact my lady will be there in sept. to start making arrangments for the wedding. So if anyone can share info with me, I would appreciate a quick responce.
