General Santos

I went to General Santos to visit friends Saturday and came back to Manila Sunday (Cebu Pacific was easier and more friendly than Philippine Airlines). I had no Hotel reservations. My friends were to meet me at the airport, but they were fashionably late. Hotels were filled up. I stayed at Amigotel Hotel (rough but good hot water, TV and great breakfast). It's near the public market (and a mosque) and I had a wonderful time. I wanted to leave this post for anyone contemplating visiting south Mindanao. I did not feel safe to visit where my friends live, in Koronadal and South Cotobato province, but they agreed to meet me in General Santos. This city is so beautiful. I attracted a lot of attention, but if you are with a group you know well, I really think this city is do-able. I do not recommend going outside the city limits. There are very few foreigners here, and you stand out easily. Inside the city, though, I think seems very safe if you are with locals you know well.
