child airfares

This is what I know about child airfares. Anyone with more information please let us know. My knowledge is from the U.S. to the Philippines. Most airlines quote it as under 2. The reason why they do this is because they assume under 2 the child will be on the parents lap and will not have / or parents do not want to pay for a seat. For this fee most airlines charge a minimal fee. Free to several hundred. The next fee is from ages 2-6,8,10,12. Every airlines is different. Two or above the airlines figure you must have a seat. On that fare it's usually 10%-30% off the fare of an adult. Again different airlines, different prices. When I did research a year ago, the catch was the discount is applied to the ticket price. Then you have all the necessary taxes that must be applied depending on your routing. Of course no discounts on taxes for a child. The bottom line is, I found out you there really isn't much discount or difference in price if you are travelling with a toddler or a very young child to the Philippines from the U.S. If a family is planning on travelling, prepare your budget.
