A Very important thing I have learned here in the Philippines is to practice Due Dilligence in practically everything I may encounter. Research, research, research! Lots of official information are available in the Internet to lessen the frustration of let us say having to trudge to a government office, stand in line or wait your turn and then being told you are missing this or that document, you need photocopies, or specific size of a picture, costs, etc. just to not have to listen to somebody saying " I am sorry 'Mom' but you need blah blah blah" is worth it. If I want to start a bank acct, I get that branch's phone number, speak directly to the manager, and get the info I need for requirements, and make an appt with her to process the paperwork; she may do it herself or delegate to somebody else but then you have a person of authority telling you what they require, as different banks/branches/management have different requirements.
What else? A copier is a must! Make multiple photocopies of IDs, documents like Marriage and birth certificates, Barangay clearance, Philippines driver's license as well as the original receipt. Have a Stash of 2x2 and 1 X1 pictures. Heck, I am photocopying receipts these days (as original ink from sales slips FADE--am so mad that my receipt for S&R tires is now just a piece of white paper and I can't get my tires rotated free anymore) Lightbulbs and appliances have warranties but those faded sales slip dont help.
I am sure others have more tips to make life easier....
