Filing for Social Security

If any of you have filed for social security benefits while in the Philippines, would you please advise me on what I need to take with me when I go to the embassy. I heard that I need my birth certificate and passport and possibly some other documents that will show my social security number. I was thinking about bringing tax documents. I lost my social security card, but I heard that I don’t need it to file. I was advised to go there two months before my birthday. I would hate to go all the way to the embassy and find out that I don’t have everything that I need. Can I make an appointment before going? Is it easy to get an embassy social security expert on the phone for advice before I go there? Can I get the checks deposited to a Philippine bank account (like BDO)? I also heard that it is easy to apply online. Is that true?
