My Filipino wife and I are retiring tot the Philippines. We will be moving to the Cagayan de Oro City area to live near her family. We have been married for 10 years and lived in the USA the whole time. I recently retired and am collecting SSI. We are under the impression that she should get her US Citizenship before we move. Her Greencard expires 2020. She does not plan on returning to USA at this time. My question is, should she get her US Citizenship or not? Advantages/disadvantages? please help. She is 49 and I think she will have no trouble getting spousal SSI benefits after I am gone being a citizen of the Philippines, since we have proof of her residing in the USA for 10 years, and of our legal marriage. Any advice to this whole adventure is greatly appreciated. We already have a home, minivan, etc there and I am very much looking forward to living near her siblings and extended family!
