Buying a car in Cebu

My Pinay wants me to buy a car, and specifically a brand new car.

I would have thought it would better to buy used because there is no chance of doing significant mileage on Cebu's roads, but my Pinay says used cars are unreliable and mechanics are untrustworthy.

I don't plan to drive in ph. Its always been jeepney and tricycles for me, but hot sun and rain has made my Pinay want a car, in particular, an SUV because of the flooding in the rainy season.

Does anyone have any words or thoughts on buying a car?
