I need to travel back and forth (US to PH) in Dec 2019 and Jan 2020. My tickets are issued via Cathy Pacific with a transfer in Hong Kong (HKG).
It's still months away, but I can't help but notice that the airport canceled flights 2-3 days in a row because of protests. I've been watching them on TFC.
Travel advisories are starting to pop up from different state departments.
I have travel insurance, but I also know that disruptions of anything over 5 days can throw airline logistics into fits for weeks/months.
Part of me says HKG Airport is one of the busiest in the world, so China will sort it out fairly quickly no matter what happens. Another part of me says to reroute early, so I'm not competing with everyone else if I have to scramble. I could probably rebook Philippine Airlines Route (PAL) if I don't mind adding $400 and adding a Manila Connection. Or, switch to Incheon International Airport (South Korea).
Does anyone have any constructive thoughts or wisdom?
