I moved to the Philippines in 2012 after retiring from the USA. I spent one month in Cebu City, due mainly to back problems, then along with my Filipina life-partner, leased a townhouse in Bogo at the north tip of Cebu province.
I saw signs of developing problems in Bogo, so made a 12 day tour of Siargao Island to check things out, with the result that we moved to Siargao Island in March of 2013, been here since, BUT...!
My hope is to be able to learn from several expats living in the Cebu City/Mandaue area about their personal experiences/opinions of many aspects of living there full-time. I have visited Cebu City several times for doctor visits and international flights to Hong Kong and Singapore (visa runs) during my 7+ years living on Siargao.
The Cebu City area has most of what I like as compared to where I currently live. It is simply 'too primitive' here, with the inability of source many supplies. Lately there has been an increase in the presence of some people here from the Alphabet-Soup groups, so maybe it is time for me to consider relocating to the greater Cebu City area. Any thoughts and opinions from expats who have lived in Cebu City for at least 2 years or longer would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I might learn some of the negative aspects as well as the many positive features of living in Cebu City.
